I recently got a question about vegan and green beauty brands that are also budget friendly. Although I tend to optimize for ingredients and performance (and let's be real, cute packaging), I do understand the need not to break the bank on beauty. Here are some of my all-time affordable green and vegan beauty finds that I'm still using in my everyday routine:
Gabriel nail polishes are vegan, cruelty-free, and "10-free", meaning that they don't contain 10 potentially toxic ingredients. I've found that these polishes last for about 5 days (with a base and top coat). They come in classic and seasonal colors, including my current fave DAWN (pictured).
Don't be fooled by the packaging, this bubble bath is not just for kids! I've been using it for about a year now and it's the ONLY thing I use in the bath. It provides lovely bubbles for the perfect bubble bath, which I then use to shave my legs. It comes in a few different scents but lavender is my favorite. I buy mine off of Thrive Market but you can also get several kinds on Amazon. They are huge and last several months.
This is an oldie and a goodie. Have you tried Thayer's toner yet? I use it on a cotton pad to wipe down my face in the morning. It kills bacteria, reduces oil and redness, and can help with acne. It's quite refreshing too.
It's definitely not cheap but the right lipstick can change your outfit and your mood entirely. I've been loving this red in the color Starlet by Zuzu Luxe. It's vegan, nontoxic, and even gluten-free. It's the perfect substitute for my former fave by Bite Beauty (which was not vegan) and a much more hydrating alternative to all those liquid lipsticks on the market. Just use a lip liner, add lipstick, blot with a tissue, and you're good to go!
Eight bucks for a lip balm might seem like a lot but for a lip balm that's vegan, cruelty-free, organic, and gluten-free, it's a steal of a deal! They come in a variety of flavors. Right now I'm using Lime and I really love it. It moisturizes my lips without drying them out (something that a lot of lip balms do). The Honey app on my browser says you can save $2.21 when buying on Amazon, so check that out.
Another Gabriel Cosmetics favorite is their blush in the shade Apricot. I first learned about this blush from renowned green beauty blogger Teri Miyahira, who calls it one of her "holy grail items." It's become that for me too! When I'm not wearing Gressa's liquid blush from the Velvet Report Vegan Makeup Starter Kit, I'm wearing this. It provides a nice soft flush to the cheeks without being too pink.
If you've seen a photo of me wearing red nail polish, 99% chance it was Sooki by Zoya. This is an amazing ever so slightly orangey red and looks good with any outfit. The best part is that with a base and top coat, it lasts for an entire week! For someone who loves a good manicure but doesn't want to mess with my nails every few days, this polish is a great choice. Also in my research, I found that you can get 4 full-size Zoya polishes for only $15!!
Biossance is definitely not a cheap brand, but their samples are! And who doesn't love a good sample? I'm currently trying out their bestsellers set which includes eye gel and vitamin C rose oil. So far I'm really impressed with the eye gel. It's not that I see some amazing results, but it feels nice and I've been using it for 2 weeks now and it still has more left! I mix the rose oil with the Velvet Report Daily Moisturizer in the evenings for my nightly routine. My skin has looked more hydrated and plump in the morning. So far, so good!
As you can see in this list, there's not a lot of color cosmetics. Most good color cosmetics in green beauty are over the $20 mark, or at least what I've found so far. I think they are totally worth it but I also understand the desire to play with more bold colors from time to time. Lately I've been experimenting with some vegan makeup from Colourpop (not 100% vegan) and Lime Crime (100% vegan). It's vegan but not nontoxic. Let me know if you'd be interested in seeing some looks with these products.
