Kylie Jenner announced yesterday that her makeup brand Kylie Cosmetics is launching a "luxury" and "real" line of makeup brushes, which most likely means they are made with animal fur or hair. I was extremely disappointed to see this after feeling hopeful when she posted on her Snapchat recently that she was trying out vegan food.
People were immediately offended by the $360 price tag for the brush set. Kylie responded by saying that she will develop something at a lower price point in the future, but that what she has created is comparable to other "real" brushes.
How about being offended that animals are being harmed to make these "luxury" brushes?! Although I could not find a list of ingredients for the brushes, the fact that Kylie is emphasizing that her brushes are "real" and not "synthetic" leads me to believe they are made with animal fur or hair.
According to PETA, makeup brushes made from animal fur or hair are commonly made from squirrels, minks, sables, horses, or goats. If you are against the fur industry, it's important to realize that fur brushes are also a product of animal cruelty.
There is absolutely no reason to buy animal fur brushes when you can get synthetic brushes that are vegan, cruelty-free, and still luxurious. Hopefully Kylie and other makeup lovers will make the connection between fur and cruelty and seek out vegan brushes in the future.
